Our voices: Poverty and livelihood

Film: In this series of short films Burundian women look at key issues in the wake of the civil war, which ended in 2005. More than 1 million Burundians were internally displaced or forced to flee the country as a result of the 12-year civil conflict which killed over 300,000 people.

Despite the end of war in 2005 which brought greater security, the population has not yet felt significant economic dividends of peace.

62% of Burundi's population is still living in severe poverty, and 81% live under the international poverty line of $1.25 a day. in 2011, Burundu ranked 185th of 187 countries on the UNDP human development index.
